Bacteri-car for Scrap Car Comparison

Making a great idea fly by ensuring the right methodology, partner and creative execution

Scrapping a car isn’t something most people think about until they absolutely have to. When the time comes, drivers need a service they can trust and one they can easily find.

Working with Scrap Car Comparison, we used Digital PR to increase brand awareness and search visibility. By creating a data-led campaign exploring the surprising levels of bacteria found inside everyday cars, we generated widespread media interest and drove significant traffic to the site.

The challenge

Scrap Car Comparison wanted to increase brand awareness and organic visibility in a competitive automotive market. Scrapping a vehicle is often a low-consideration purchase, meaning people only search for services when they urgently need them.

To reach a wider audience earlier in their car ownership journey, we needed a campaign that would capture attention, earn authoritative media coverage and position the brand within everyday conversations around car ownership.

Our approach

Working closely with our Strategy Team, we developed a Digital PR campaign designed to tap into growing public interest in hygiene and cleanliness in a post-pandemic world.

We partnered with microbiologist Dr Jonathan Cox at Aston University to conduct an original research study analysing bacteria levels inside everyday vehicles. By combining credible scientific methodology with a surprising headline insight – that car interiors can contain more bacteria than a toilet seat – we created a compelling story for journalists.

The campaign was supported with clear data, expert commentary and strong visuals, enabling the story to gain traction across national and international media outlets.

"We hoped Bacteri-car would perform well and it's safe to say that with the expertise of the amazing PR team at Propellernet, it delivered and delivered better than we could have expected!”
