The Beauty Trends Report for Beauty Pie

Turning social and search data into an evergreen beauty trends report that journalists – and Google – keep coming back to

Every year around November or December, glossy magazine titles publish their predictions for the beauty trends of the year ahead. These are usually based on product launches, catwalk moments and editorial expertise – but rarely backed by data.

With TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest constantly surfacing new beauty trends, we saw an opportunity to create something more authoritative: a data-led report ranking the biggest beauty trends of the past year while predicting what would be hot in the year ahead. This is where the Beauty Pie Trends Report was born.

The challenge

Beauty trend predictions are everywhere, but most rely on editorial opinion rather than measurable data. With new trends emerging on social platforms almost weekly, there was an opportunity to bring clarity to the conversation.

Our challenge was to create a credible, data-led trends report that would stand out to journalists, provide genuine value to customers, and work as evergreen content that could attract coverage and links year after year.

Our approach

To build an informative evergreen resource, we compiled data from platforms including TikTok, Google, Instagram and Pinterest. By combining these metrics, we were able to identify the beauty trends that had dominated the past 12 months.

To add a newsworthy hook, we also analysed Google search data in the lead-up to the end of the year to identify which trends were rapidly rising and likely to take off in the year ahead.

We segmented the trends into categories including hair, makeup, skincare, nails, and body & wellness. This not only made the report easier for customers to explore, but also created multiple angles for media outreach.

Finally, we incorporated commentary from Beauty Pie’s in-house experts, explaining why certain trends had taken off, what influenced them, and how people could recreate them at home.

"Not only does the Trends Report get a great response from journalists and consumers, but it's something we look forward to internally, too. We're already looking forward to see what the third iteration of the report can do!"
