Why We’re Proud To Partner with Dad La Soul
At Propellernet, we talk a lot about purpose led work. But sometimes purpose shows up closer to home than any campaign ever could.
That’s why we’re proud to be community partners with Dad La Soul, a charity founded by Dan Flanagan, reimagining men’s mental health through connection, honesty and genuinely enjoyable nights out for dads.
A different kind of night out
Dad La Soul sessions create space for dads and male-identifying carers to spend time together, listen to decent music, play games, hear from guest speakers and talk honestly if and when they want to.
It’s a simple idea, but a powerful one. Especially when you consider that:
- 1 in 3 dads feel lonely most of the time
- 1 in 5 UK men have no close friends
- Suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 50
Dad La Soul exists because fatherhood can be brilliant and brutal at the same time, and too often men are told to just get on with it.
Turning conversation into action
Alongside hosting Dad La Soul meetups in our Brighton office, we’ve also supported their suicide prevention work, including a recent workshop delivered in partnership with Albion in the Community and funded by the Premier League.
The training focused on how to listen when someone is struggling, how to spot warning signs and how to follow up with care.
Writing what we don’t always say
Recently, our office also became the backdrop for a BBC News segment about Letters to Our Sons, a new book project led by actor Stephen Graham and psychology lecturer Orly Klein.
The project invites fathers to write letters to their sons about life, masculinity and the things they wish they’d known earlier. Part of the book’s profits will support Dad La Soul.
Why this matters to us
We’re very proud partners of Dad La Soul, to back work that tackles real problems, locally and compassionately.
