From Trees to Bees: What’s Next for Our Nature Restoration Mission
At Propellernet, we’re always looking at how we can take meaningful environmental action that makes a real difference for people and the planet. Having met our bold ambition of planting 1 million trees, we’re now turning our attention to protecting them. And the answer? Bees. 10 million of them.
The Roots of Our Mission: Planting a Million Trees
Three years ago, we set ourselves a challenge that felt both inspiring and radical: to plant one million trees. And we did it. Working alongside EarthLungs, we helped reforest landscapes, capture carbon and support biodiversity with Mangrove trees. But planting trees is just the beginning. Ensuring those trees thrive is the next big challenge – and bees are a vital part of the solution.
Why Bees?
Bees are more than just pollinators. In our reforestation areas, they play a crucial role in defending trees from large animals and deterring illegal logging. But their benefits don’t stop there. Bees also bring economic value to the communities that care for the trees. From honey and wax production to supporting local employment and funding ranger teams, each hive is a mini ecosystem of positive impact.
So far, we’ve funded 50 hives in Kenya, home to around 3 million bees. These hives are made by local carpenters and carefully monitored as they attract colonies. Once settled, they’re moved to apiaries where the bees can safely get to work. And yes, our name is even proudly displayed on the hives.
What’s Next?
Our goal is to support 10 million bees over the next three years. That means more hives, more trees protected, and more livelihoods supported. It’s a long-term commitment, but one that reflects our belief in nature-first solutions and collaborative action.
From the beginning, sustainability has been woven into the fabric of Propellernet. We’re proud to be a B Corp and our environmental strategy goes beyond offsetting – it’s about creating long-lasting, systemic change. Whether it’s trees, bees or something new, we’ll keep looking for ways to make our impact meaningful and measurable.
