Victory over the cuts

Not many people know this, because she isn’t a trumpet blower, but our MD, Nikki Gatenby, has been campaigning with Trust for Developing Communities to prevent the £800,000 Council Cuts to Youth Services in Brighton & Hove.

Every £1 spent on Youth Services with TDC actually = £5.56 in social return. Which means £800,000 would have become a c£4.5m cost, in terms of additional special health services, homelessness support, policing and crime prevention.

‘WITH CONVICTION BEHIND A CAUSE, WE CAN INDIVUDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY MAKE A DIFFERENCE’

Clearly cuts would have a devastating effect, not only on vulnerable young people who need support, but also on the future prospects of this amazing place we call home.

Yesterday there was a council budget meeting. We feared the worst, in terms of the cuts. However from the £800,000 we’ve got back £645,000. A VICTORY!!

So many groups, in particular the youth organisations, lobbied hard and successfully demonstrated the impact these cuts would have…headline amendments affecting the services were approved as outlined;

There’s so much more to be done. But for now, we’d like to thank everyone who signed and shared the petition and those who gave more support in other ways too. Nikki hugely appreciated everyone support and it just goes to show, that with conviction behind a cause, we can individually and collectively make a difference.
