The Rocket Newsletter
October 2009
There's been a happy buzz about the office this month following our four, yes four, award nominations! We were runners up for the ‘Healthiest Workplace’ award at the Brighton and Hove Business Awards and we're up for three more at the Sussex Business Awards which is very exciting. We'd love to have some silverware to display in the office.
Elsewhere, (our MD) Jack's article on 'Buying or Selling SEO links' has sparked much comment and discussion over on Econsultancy where it featured. Could this practice eventually lead to the downfall of Google? Read on below.
And finally, it it was great to hear the news that online advertising spending has overtaken television expenditure for the first time. It means that our Rocket is absolutely in the right place to continue offering clients the best possible service for the future. A very good month indeed!
Best Regards,

Buying or selling SEO links? Look at the trouble you're causing
Media owners have taken to selling advertorials, in a bid to regain some of the revenue Google rakes in for providing search rankings. Our MD, Jack, contemplates a world where advertorial link sales go underground and the editorial integrity of media owners becomes compromised. Could a new search engine one day topple the giant that is Google?
Is Propellernet the healthiest place to work?
We're very well looked after here at Propellernet HQ, thanks to our dedicated 'wellbeing team'. As we all know, a healthy body means a healthy mind and that's a concept of utmost importance in our office. We've even been nominated for two 'healthy workplace' awards for our efforts. Annelies Van de Velde explains what it is that makes us such a healthy bunch and tells all about wake-boarding to work!
Staff Profile
Name: Sophie Coley
Role: Online PR Intern
Tell us about a hobbie first?
I played baseball until a few years back, when I missed a catch and ended up minus two teeth and plus a broken nose! I still watch matches as often as I can and am a big Yankees fan - I'd love to get to New York to see a game one day!
Now, why are you completing an internship?
I decided to get some real experience while the graduate jobs market is tough. I studied journalism at university and PR has always fascinated me. Online PR is particularly interesting, especially now there's more spent on online advertising than television.
What made you choose Propellernet?
I wanted to work somewhere where they'd let me do more than make tea and I got the feeling that Propellernet would really let me get involved - which they have. I knew the team worked with some exciting clients and everyone seemed really friendly, which were both big incentives too.

Some of the team attended the glitzy Brighton and Hove Business Awards Ceremony at the Hilton Metropole this month. We were runners-up in our 'Healthiest Workplace' category and had a great night out, gving us a chance to dust off our dinner jackets and cocktail dresses. We'll also be at the Sussex Business Awards early next month where we've been nominated for three awards; 'Best Employer in Sussex', 'The Innovation in Business Award' and 'The Healthiest Workplace Award'.
October 4th saw Chris complete the Brighton 10km run for Cancer Research UK. He made it along the seafront in just under 55 minutes and has so far raised over £180 for the fantastic cause! Runners on the day also included Katie Price who apparently finished in 2 hours 11 minutes.
- We hear wedding bells!
Big congratulations to our Creative Director, Lucy, who returned from Bali with a sparkly engagement ring on her finger! We wish her and fiancé, Tatt, the very best for their big day.
