The Rocket Newsletter

May 2010

Well we're only halfway through May and it's already been a hectic month what with the little matters of a general election, a World Cup squad announcement and a pesky ash cloud (our account director, Rachel, was one of the thousands stranded abroad)!

Things haven't been much quieter here at Propellernet HQ although they have been a whole lot more positive. We had an amazingly successful few days at the Internet World show where Lucy and Gary's presentations went down a storm. It was great to get feedback from those who really understood the value of the SEO-PR work we do and, what's more, we met lots of lovely people who we're hoping to work in the near future. If you missed either (or both) presentations, take a look at Lucy and Gary's blog posts.

Of course, despite being super busy, we've found the time to get some exercise and uphold our 'Healthiest Workplace in Sussex' title. Following the latest round of the Sussex Sports Series Battle of the Businesses we've rocketed to the top of the league and we intend to stay there!

Best Regards,

SEO PR - The Love Affair

SEO-PR: The Love AffairStella worked in traditional PR for many years before joining Propellernet and helping to develop the SEO-PR team here. In this post, she talks about the stark contrasts between the worlds of public relations and search engine optimisation but how the same skills apply to both industries and the great results that are achieved when SEO and PR are combined.

Online PR for SEO - Beyond the Press Release
- Internet World 2010 video presentation and case studies

Search Marketing for BrandsAgain, Lucy's Internet World presentation was hugely popular with standing room only! Feedback afterwards was that it was "Much more engaging than Google!" and that "Lucy was great fun to watch and listen to".

You can hear all she had to say about how SEO-PR is so much more than simply distributing keyword-laden press releases online via a newswire in this post.

Gavin Willis

Staff Profile

Name: Gavin Willis
Role: Retail Focus

What events have you been to recently?
I attended The Outdoors Show and also the London Golf and Tennis Show in April. Being a keen sportsman and with Propellernet working with a few sports clients already, this was a great opportunity to get a real understanding of the target personas for sports and outdoor brands and to build relationships with some big brands in this sector.

What's the latest industry news?
With my main specialities being that of PPC management and working within the retail team, I am especially intrigued and really excited about mobile ads. It is set to really kick off this year and I predict that it will become a key element of many of our clients' search strategies.

What do you predict for the year ahead?
Since the recession the demand from clients to understand how their money has been spent has meant a sharp focus on ROI. As a result, I see a tighter focus on analytics, analysis and being able to report back to clients in an easy to understand way. Which is good because it means my work is valued even more.
