The Rocket Newsletter
June 2010
At long last the World Cup is upon us – and we're loving it!
It’s been fascinating to see how such a massive sporting event has affected the worlds of search, online and social networking. Remember, networks such as Twitter were only just in existence last time the tournament was on. So for the first time footballers, such as Kaka, are engaging with fans directly all around the World. We wonder if there will be any social media own goals?
More importantly for brands, search volumes for World Cup related terms are huge; in the first week of June one in every 155 online searches in the UK mentioned the World Cup! Even searches for flags have rocketed so perhaps it’s worth investigating to see if you can capture some of that traffic.
In the mean time we will continue our World Cup fever with an office sweepstake, our very own fantasy football super league and, of course, cheering on England!
Best Regards,

Our SEO-PR galaxy includes an array of different, link building tactics including product placement, blogger relations and using topical news hooks (the World Cup, for example!). Ashtrocity in the Travel Industry
We love working with travel brands and are even Travel Marketing Awards winners! So, when the infamous ash cloud struck back in April we knew there would be repercussions for many of our clients. Eshe takes a bigger picture look at the effect the cloud had on the industry as a whole and the tactics we used to support our clients throughout the ashtrocity!
Propellernet elects a Fun Minister!
We’ve sensed that our fun and wellbeing activity needed some direction for a while now and what better way to achieve that than by electing a leader?
We had our very first fun-election last week, which saw Rik and Stefan become Propellernet’s inaugural Fun Minister and Deputy Fun Minister respectively. Read Jack’s post to find out what their new jobs will entail.

Tell us a joke
I went to ask about yoga classes for beginners the other day. The Instructor asked, "How flexible are you?" "Well" I said, "I can't do Mondays"
What's your favourite website?
As a very keen but often frustrated surfer (because of the lack of waves hitting Brighton beach), my favourite website is magicseaweed.com. I check it daily to see if there’s a swell coming near, only to discover that 90% of the time there isn’t! With surf forecasts, an online shop and an active community it’s a one stop shop for me to get my fix when there aren’t any waves.
What is the biggest tip you could give to a brand?
It's really for the same reasons that I like Magic Seaweed so much – they're useful, informative, relevant, accessible, honest and entertaining... in my opinion, the same traits that make people interesting in real life! If brands can get that right, they'll build trust and loyalty from customers and will ultimately succeed.
