The Rocket Newsletter
August 2010
Happy August to all our subscribers!! We've handed control of the newsletter over to our MD Jack Hubbard, this month, who has some exciting news to share with you all...
Hi everyone, I hope you're all enjoying the British summer! With some big changes taking place at Propellernet HQ in recent months, I thought I'd take the opportunity to update you lovely people.
Most importantly, we have a brand new and more fitting proposition: "Future Proven Search". We've developed this following a review of our range of services and with a lot of input from the charming and talented Nikki Winton. Nikki joined the team last month after seven years of service as Client Services Director at digital and direct agency Tullo Marshall Warren.
If that wasn't enough, we've also developed the "Propellernet Academy", which will be led by another new recruit, Vicky Cohen. The academy drives performance optimisation and evolution – or thought – at Propellernet and also offers training and flexible resourcing solutions to our customers. Exciting stuff! Vicky was previously European head of People Policy at Google so we're delighted to have her onboard. If you want to hear more about anything I've mentioned, do get in touch or keep an eye on our twitter @Propellernet. There's always an open invitation to join us in Brighton for a drink at the Propellerplex any time you're in town too.
On a rockier note, I recently climbed the Matterhorn (here are some pics) and am about to become a first time Dad. I'm not sure which is scarier! I hope to catch up with you all soon..
Best Regards,

How To Achieve Search Result Domination
You've probably noticed the subtle changes to the way Google shows your search results over the years, but have you given enough thought as to how you can capitalise on these new opportunities? Dave Lees examines the ways in which brands can make use of Universal Search, both now and in the future: from maps to video to product extensions!
The Search for Success – Grading Retail
Does a marketing scheme which gets you to page three on Google really deserve a grade 'A'? What effect is Universal Search having on the grading of search results and search marketing schemes? Our Business Director, Stefan, takes a look at Conductor's latest report on 'Natural Search Trends of the Internet Retailer' and explores the above questions.

Stranded on a desert island - what three items would you take with you?
My Blackberry, Lip balm and er…. can I please take Lenny Kravitz, Brad Pitt or that hot dude from CSI please? Any of those three will be fine, I'm not fussy ;-)
How did you get into online marketing?
My love for music! I started doing online marketing for a record company years ago when MySpace was starting to change how artists promote themselves online. It was all so exciting to see how the music business was transforming and I really enjoyed being in the midst of it all happening.
What is the biggest tip you could give to a brand?
Transparency, transparency, transparency. As the Cluetrain Manifesto says, "There are no secrets". When your brand is Googled, everything comes up: the good, the bad and the ugly! Consumers want to trust brands and to earn that trust is to consistently deliver against a brand promise. What people say about you online is more powerful than ever.
