How you can use search to save £1000’s with Google Checkout?

Whether it’s acquisitions or new services, barely a week goes by in the online world without something new to report.  This week, we’re giving a heads-up on Google Checkout.  In June 2006, Google Checkout was introduced in the US to provide consumers with a faster, safer, and more convenient way to shop online and help merchants drive leads, increase conversion rates, and reduce costs. Last month it launched in the UK (April 13th).

So why go to the effort of moving to the new Google online transaction service?   Well, if your business uses Google Adwords, there are huge benefits.  For every £1,000 spent on clicks, £10,000 worth of transactions can be processed without any charges, helping you to make valuable savings.

No transaction fees in 2007

And that’s not all.  There are no credit card transaction fees for the whole of 2007 (around 3% of the transaction value).  So if you’re processing £50k of transactions a month, that’s £1,500 saved.  Finally, you be able to display the lovely looking Google Checkout icon below your ad to encourage click-throughs and reassure the customer of a fast, safe and convenient transaction.

So is Google Checkout any good as a product?  We’ve started to do some research into the functionality and ease of use and it is all looking pretty good. Google seem to be excellent at absorbing the best of the competition and creating industry leading tools and software & with the Checkout it looks like they’re on the money again.

Google Checkout v PayPal

The main question is… can the online giant wrestle the mantle from well established PayPal?  Google currently only have 2% of the market share, compared to PAyPal’s 25%, but if you take away E-Bay transactions that looks more like 8-9%.  We’ll keep you posted with any more developments.
