European Search Awards 2014: An Icelandic Adventure

Earlier this year we found out that Propellernet had been shortlisted for a number of awards at the prestigious European Search Awards, including best use of search in travel and leisure, best agency and two nominations for best use of PR in a search campaign.

I was really excited to be asked to go along to the awards on Propellernet’s behalf with Megan Hart, as well as both our Young Search Professional nominees, James Miller and Steph Sheehan (that's the four of us above, on the left - thanks for the photo Don't Panic Projects).A massive added bonus was that this year’s awards were hosted in Iceland, and so last Friday morning we set out on our journey to The Grand Hotel in Reykjavik to find out how we’d fared.

The event was packed, and it was great to see how many UK campaigns were up for awards, showing that ongoing efforts around digital innovation and excellence continues toreally set the UK apart.

We were over the moon that Propellernet won the award for Best Use of Search in Travel and Leisure for our work with Forest Holidays, which also bagged the Best Use of Search Award at the Travel Marketing Awards just a few weeks before too.

Whilst we didn’t take home the Best Agency award for a second year running (well done Performics EMEA), or pick up the Best Use of PR in a Search Campaign this year, congratulations to Leapfrogg for their win – it’s great to see us Brighton agencies representing at a European level!

There was rapturous applause and lots of proud faces from the Propellernet table as our very own Steph Sheehan was announced the winner of the Young Search Professional of the Year Award. Learning, innovation and development are massively important at Propellernet, so we were stoked not only to have Steph and James nominated this year, but also to have Steph win the award after Propellernet’s creative strategist, Sophie Coley, was announced as last year’s winner.

After the celebrations, we made sure that we made the most of our time in Reykjavik, exploring the city, heading out on a whale watching excursion and, of course, travelling to see the epic Northern Lights.

So a massive thank you to the event organisers for a fantastic and fun ceremony, to our table 9 companions Linkdex, the Best SEO Software award winners, Waitrose, who were nominated with us for best use of PR, Innovation Award nominees, IgnitionOne, and Money Supermarket, which won the Best Use of Search in Finance for their work with Marin Software, and congratulations to all of this year’s winners.

And finally a huge thank you from Meg, Steph, James and me to Propellernet for sending us out on the trip of a lifetime.
