Stefan Hull

Business Director

My employment history was once described as a “bit of a wiggle” and that’s probably a fair comment.

I have undergraduate and postgraduate law degrees and specialised in law in developing countries. My first proper job was as Lecturer in the Laws of Central Asia at the School of Oriental Studies but I’ve changed industries a few times and my other job titles have included: Pre-Sales Systems Engineer (for one of the world’s largest technology companies), City Reporter (The Daily Telegraph) and General Manager (Brighton Racecourse and Conference Centre). I’ve also been a director of a FE college and have run courses for marketeers about how to make effective use of PR opportunities.

You could say that I’m not scared by change!

I’ve enjoyed working with a lot of retailers (large and small) over the years and my job – to lead our engagement with retailers – is a fantastic opportunity to work with some of the biggest brands out there. I’m an inquisitive (or is that nosey?) person and enjoy finding out more about their business and the markets they work in.

Why Propellernet?

I met Jack a few years ago and he’s always been the person I’ve turned to for advice about search and digital marketing more generally. One thing that always struck me was how positive Jack was about the people he worked with – he always sounded genuinely excited to be working with them and that made a big impression on me.

I also liked the fact that Jack didn’t talk jargon – he talked about Propellernet’s clients’ and how they engage with their customers and that made sense to the marketer in me:

·         Capture as much of the market as possible;

·         Connect with your customers; and

·         Capitalise on these relationships to develop advocacy

Simple, eh?! And now it’s my job to spread the word.

Interests:

I love music and have recently started playing the drums again after too many years of not and after putting my career as a superstar DJ (ahem) on hold. I’ve just completed a music production course at Berklee College and will be registering for further courses as I work towards a “proper” qualification.

When I’m not making noise I like to spend time outdoors. I’ve just started windsurfing (well, in theory; I spend most of the time falling in the water) and I’m running the Brighton Marathon in April 2011 – if you’d like to support me (and, more importantly, Barnado’s) please take a look at my JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/stefanjhull

My absolute favourite way to spend time is playing football with my two-year-old son (think Brian Glover in Kes). Oh, and pushing our collection of Hot Wheels toy cars around the house.
